Luxor Museum is what the Cairo Museum wishes it were — modern lighting, English labels, and a tightly curated selection of maybe 300 objects instead of 300,000. Highlights include the intact granite statue of Thutmose III from the Karnak Cachette, the royal mummies of Ahmose I and Ramesses I, and the entire reconstructed 'Wall of Akhenaten' — a wall of 283 painted sandstone blocks salvaged from a heretic-pharaoh temple.

It sits directly on the Corniche between Luxor Temple and Karnak, so it's the perfect air-conditioned midday break between morning temple visits and sunset by the Nile. The two-hour visit fits comfortably in a hot afternoon, and there's a small cafe on the upper level with river views. Skip the audio guide — English labeling is genuinely excellent throughout.
